Chasing out the last of the cold weather with this golden almond milk. Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 4,000 years as a blood cleanser, pain reliever and immune booster. Warm and soothing, it's the ideal comforter for bad weather, a bad day, or when feeling run down.
TURMERIC is one of nature's best anti-inflammatories, and can sooth skin problems, allergies, pain, and inflammation in the joints. Curcumin, one of the compounds in turmeric, is a natural antihistamine and can reduce hives and hayfever. The healthy fats in COCONUT OIL - in the form of medium chain triglycerides - contain anti viral, antimicrobial and anti inflammatory properties. CINNAMON has potent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor, cardiovascular and cholesterol-lowering effects.
The benefits of curcumin are best absorbed when accompanied by freshly ground black pepper or cayenne pepper. This recipe uses both. CAYENNE or CAPSICUM, reduces inflammation, relieves pain, clears congestion and boosts the immune system. GINGER clears congestion from the respiratory tract, reduces inflammation in the joints, warms the body and enhances digestion.
You can tweak the recipe according to your tastes, adding in more or less of any ingredient as you see fit. I've experimented with it and this is the balance that suits me best.
GOLDEN SUPER MILK
- 300 ml, or one mug, of unsweetened almond milk, or nut/plant milk of your choice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon, or 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp coconut oil, warmed
- 1 tbsp manuka honey, or raw honey
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- pinch cayenne pepper
- pinch himalayan pink salt
- freshly ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a small pan on a medium heat. Warm for around 10 minutes, stirring often, but be careful not to boil (which can lessen nutritional benefits and also change the structure of the plant milk). Just before boiling, pour into a mug that pleases you and enjoy. Great before bed.
